Quicksticks Hockey

20th April 2023

On Wednesday 19th, Mrs Day-Webb and Mr George took two teams of six to the Quicksticks hockey tournament at Kings School. In the decade that Mrs Day-Webb had been taking teams to hockey competitions, no Calton team had ever one. Last year, they came second in the league so hopes were high for this year. Seven teams were entered into the Championship part of the tournament (established hockey players) and ten teams were entered into the Development part (children that had not played hockey matches). Each match was eight minutes long.

Play was fast and players were running for the whole time they were on the pitch. Luckily, each Calton team were able to watch the other’s first match and cheer from the side. Once all the first-round matches were played, results were announced and both Calton teams made it into the next round. Here, things got tough for the development team and despite their brilliant team work, they narrowly lost their match, coming fourth in the end.

However, the Championship team went all the way: showing other teams how accurate passing and shooting were key to a good team. They won their last match 4:1. This meant that Calton were crowned the Champions and each received a gold medal.

Development team: Lilly, Sofia, Praise, James, Brax and Rayaan

Championship team: Jona, Adam, Josiah, Abbie, Anna and Rachel
