King's Science and Engineering Challenge

20th March 2023

On Saturday 18th March, two teams of Year 6 children took part in The Primary School Science and Engineering Challenge at Kings School. The teams were set two challenges: the first was to build a wind turbine where points were given for design and the speed of rotation; the second challenge was to build a tower to hold a mass of up to 2kg. The higher the tower, the more points a team could earn. Teams also gained points for team work and improvements to their designs after testing. Each competing team were provided with the same resources. Team were not allowed to receive any instruction from their teacher, it had to be all their own work (something that Mrs Day-Webb and Mrs Clarke found hard as they wanted to build too!)

After nearly two hours of building, the top three places were announced. It was tight at the top, but the winners clinched the top spot due to their amazing team work. The cup will be proudly displayed at school.
