Tag Rugby Competition

Tag Rugby Competition

On Wednesday 29th March 2017 Calton Primary School hosted a Gloucester Schools Tag Rugby Competition, which involved 12 schools from the Gloucestershire area. The event was also assisted by Hartpury College who used the festival to increase their abilities and skills in a range of skills related to rugby and more importantly coaching and refereeing.

Calton had two teams taking part in the competition, Calton Tigers and Calton Lions. The Tigers got through to the Plate competition and eventually winning the game against Shurdington, making us the winners of the cup!

Calton Lions had a harder challenge attached, and made their way to the finals of the Cup competition. The Lions faced a rather competitive Upton St. Leonards team. The match was played with such ferocity and speed, on a level that Mr Gower and Mr Breen, have never seen. The team did themselves very proud losing the game 10 – 8. However, Upton better be ready for a challenge in the league, we will be back!

A massive thanks to Jumptastic, Hartpury and the parents who came to support and cheers on. A special thanks goes to Mrs Sullivan who ran the hot drinks stand and helped out on the day.

Congratulations to the Tigers for winning the Plate and Lions for being finalist in the first Calton Tag Rugby competition, long may this tournament continue!
