Boys Football

Thursday 5th October

Calton hosted Robinswood in two games, in a league fixture and also a friendly fixture for the reserve side. It was a good workout for both teams as they start to play regularly as a team. Lots of determination and endeavor was on show, with both teams having improved second halves as they got used to playing together. Chances were created however the clinical touch in front of goal was lacking. Ryan did score a very well worked goal in the league game, with a top corner finish after a lovely through ball from Jaiden. Although neither side was successful in winning their matches, it was a good chance to show off our skills and teamwork and we know what we need to do to improve.

Calton travelled to Upton St Leonards for our next league fixture. This was the first game where we had players available from the bench. The team were keen to put in a good performance and impress the Calton crowd. Well they certainly didn’t disappoint during the first half. They were very impressive; the link up play, passing and moving and all-round general effort was pleasing to see. Everyone worked hard and Calton were the better team. At half time it was 1:1 with Ryan scoring a well place finish after some good passing and moving.

The second half started with Calton looking to push on and get a lead, however Upton had different ideas and applied heavy pressure which took its toll, Upton scored some impressive goals which were scored with power, Calton battled to get back in the game, however time was against them and as Calton ran out of steam, Upton continued to press and ran out 5:1 winners.

We look forward to our next game, where we play Tredworth at home.

Calton hosted Tredworth in our next league fixture. Slowly but surely the passing game that we are trying to play is coming to fruition. The link up play was impressive and Calton defended well and also attacked with purpose. Even the parents watching voiced their pleasure at the football they were watching. Calton went deservedly ahead with a well worked goal which saw Ryan latch onto an impressive through ball to finish well.

Calton continued to press and try and find the second, however Tredworth got more of a foothold in the game and started to put the team under pressure. Tredworth got their equalizer in the last few minutes of the game, when they nicked the ball from the keeper before he fully had control.

The game ended 1:1 but Calton deserved more. We now move on to our next home game against St Peters.
